HICK DUARTE

Info

Hick Duarte is a Brazilian photographer and director based in São Paulo. He began his career at the age of 17, photographing parties and music concerts with the desire to create the images that would illustrate his own words while covering festivals in his hometown. With a background in Social Communication and a degree in Journalism, Hick developed a documentary yet poetic approach to portraiture, focusing primarily on fashion and youth culture.

His work has been featured in i-D, Dazed, GQ (U.S. and Spain), W Magazine, Elle Brasil, Vogue Brasil, Vogue Portugal, Vogue Philippines, and The New York Times Style Magazine. His commercial clients include adidas, Calvin Klein, Chanel Beauty, H&M, Spotify, Netflix, Puma, Hering, Natura, MAC Cosmetics, and the Marina Abramović Institute.

In July 2017, his largest solo exhibition, Gaps, was held in New York as part of Bonde, a conference dedicated to Brazilian design. He was selected for the British Fashion Council’s NEW WAVE: Creatives list in both 2018 and 2019. In 2020, the four covers he shot for the Vogue Brasil September issue—dedicated to Amazon Rainforest activists—received Condé Nast’s global Green Award for sustainability storytelling. In 2021, the music video Água de Flor, directed for Brazilian artist Trevo, won Best Longform Video at the MVF – Music Video Festival. That same year, Hick founded Fenda, a multidisciplinary platform that supports emerging Brazilian artists through mentoring, collaborative projects, and artist residencies.
